Anouncement: Impending Reveries

The long-awaited day is finally here! Impending Reveries has been published!

Talyn has always had vivid dreams, but when she noticed the people, places, and events from her dreams happening around her, she wondered if she’d gone insane. Until she met Joseph. He was everything she’d dreamed of for years, literally, and when she learned that he’d dreamed of her too, things changed. What they had were more than dreams. They were Impending Reveries.

Join Talyn and Joseph as they search for the truth behind their dreams and the meanings that they hold, all the while, also searching for something even greater. Their own happily-ever-after.

The Dark Moment

Every story has that dark moment. The one that makes you wonder if the characters will make it through. This week, I had to format and edit that scene in Impending Reveries.

I hate that scene. These characters are part of me and hurting them hurts me. But pain is necessary for growth. I cried the whole time, but I finally made it through, as did my characters. But it got me to thinking (never a good thing LOL), how much is too much.

So, I ask you: how much suffering should a character go through? Is there a point where you would think it was TOO much?

Stand Up and Speak Out

Bullying sucks. That should be enough said, but unfortunately it’s not. This is something that has been going on for WAY too long and it affects EVERY child. They have been bullied, bullied someone else, or seen it happening.

I am trying very hard not to name names or call out individuals because that would only help a few (if that). The point of this post is to call attention to the fact that this is going on and the only way it will stop is to take the power away from the bully.

Bullies rely on the fear that they put in the victim. That fear and intimidation prevents the child from standing up for himself or speaking out and letting the appropriate people know what’s going on. And it’s not only the victim who is intimidated. The witnesses could also do the right thing, but they are under the bullies power.

Here’s the thing. If these kids joined together and stood against the bully, he wouldn’t stand a chance. (I’m not talking about just physically. In fact, I would suggest getting physical only as a last resort and only enough to get away from the situation.)

Parents, PLEASE, speak to your kids about bullying. If they have seen it or been a victim of it, encourage them to report it. Children, stand up for each other and speak out against these bullies. Wouldn’t you want someone to do it for you?

Special Occasion: I’m Old

His face doesn't really look like that.

Well, it’s official. I’m old. My beautiful baby boy is no longer a child. He is now a teenager. EEEEKKKK!!!! That was the sound of my hair instantly turning gray and my entire household being flipped on its ear.

I know how it is to live with teenagers. When I married DH, his children were 16, 15, and 12. Yes, I was an idiot for volunteering to enter a house with 2, almost 3, teenagers. During the years of teen hell, I found my first gray hair. But now it’s MY BABY that’s going to be driving me nuts.

I know the reason behind the crazy teen years. They are developing their own personalities and it takes a lot of mistakes to make it happen. Knowing why doesn’t make it easier.

I can only hope that his teenage years go by without any jail time (for me or him) and no major fissures in his relationships with family.

So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY baby boy. (He’s going to kill me for calling him that.) Please, don’t go nuts with your new “teenager” status. Enough blogging for now, Mom has to go make an appointment for a dye job.

New Board For GCCRWA

Saturday, we had the first meeting of the GCCRWA of the new year. With the new year, we have elected new board members. These lovely ladies have their work cut out for them. We are a crazy bunch of writers, who all seem to have ADD. There were at least three different people wanting to talk at once through the entire meeting. But our wonderful leaders kept it together and steered us all back to the topic at hand without having to use a cattle prod (which is amazing).

I learned a lot AND it was fun (a hard combination to find). So Kudos to you ladies. I’m looking forward to this new year. May we have a great one with lots of contract. Hey, I had to throw in a wish for us all. 🙂

My Christmas Present

I’ve been AFK for a while, celebrating the holidays with my family.

My son said this was his best Christmas ever! Of course, he WOULD say that seeing as he got a MP3 player, a laptop, and a phone. But it was MY best Christmas ever too. I got this:

YAY!!!!!!!!! I finally have a laptop! Now if the fam starts annoying me while I’m trying to write, I can just leave the room. The only problem is this will probably be me soon:

What did you get for Christmas?

Do you have someone (or a lot of someones) who has supported you in your career or your life? Tell me about them.

Thursday’s Tunes: Baby’s Got Her Blue Jeans On

I know, this is an oldie, but I still love this song. It’s one of those songs that makes you want to strut your stuff.

So, what are you listening to today?
