Obsessive Over Books

Alright, I admit it; I can be a little obsessive. I have an attention span of about 15 minutes (yes I’ve timed it), so when a book pulls me into the story and I forget the time, I rave about it for days. OK, I can hear my family rolling their eyes, so sometimes I rave a little longer. That’s not the point, let’s stay focused.

I read a book recently that I wasn’t too sure about. This author is a wonderful person, but I was afraid to read her books. For one, I admire her greatly, but I kept thinking, “What if I don’t like it?” That one was easily solved; I didn’t tell anyone that I was reading it until I was certain that I liked it. The bigger issue, though, was the fact that I heard “werewolf hero” and thought, “No, you can’t beat Jacob Black!”

Before I go on, I have to explain to those of you who don’t know me. I was a little obsessed with the Twilight Saga (my family needs to keep their mouths shut on this; I know that it was more than a little). I read all four books more than once (7 times), which is something that I never do. I bookmarked Stephanie Meyer’s website and became just as obsessed over Jacob and Edward as all of the teenage girls.

Back to the book that I recently read, I LOVED it!!!!!! It wasn’t even similar to the ones that I had read before. The author created an interesting world and the characters were amazing. I fell in love with the hero and felt a connection with the heroine. The only thing that disappointed me was that the book came to an end. Good news though, she has written about other characters from the book and I can’t wait to read those!

Now, the point in all of this, don’t let your preconceived notions prevent you from enjoying a new story. Don’t compare books before you’ve read them. Don’t say that you don’t like a certain genre if you’ve never read a book from it. Keep yourself open to all the wonderful possibilities out there and you might just fall in love with a book that you thought you wouldn’t like.

Has a book grabbed your attention lately?

  1. Tammy,

I’m a book-aholic. I read and read and read until my head fills up with so many characters and story lines that I sometimes get confused. However, when I find a book (or series) that rings a bell, I salivate for every installment. My latest obsession would be the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh. These are amazing books and I couldn’t put the last one down. Now I have to wait (for what feels like) forever for the next one.

  2. Davincaavet,

I haven’t read Guild Hunter before; I’ll check those out. I despise the wait when I read a series. It’s the worst. The week of the release, I’ll lie awake for hours daydreaming about it. LOL

    Thanks for stopping by.

  3. So a little obsessed?? Really? You?

Why haven’t you told me about the Guild Hunter before?

  4. Faith,

I said that my family wasn’t allowed to say how obsessed I was; now shush!

I haven’t read it, yet. I’ll try to get around to it. I’ve started the book club here and just agreed to moderate the book club and the library, so I’m a little swamped with reading material!

    ❤ ya
